This is the website for Maurice O'Carroll, Advocate and Barrister. I am a practising member of the Faculty of Advocates (otherwise referred to as the Scottish Bar) and have been since July 1995.  I called to the Bar of England and Wales in March 2019 making me dual qualified.  I am a member of the Middle Temple in London.   I am a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and was Standing Junior Counsel to the Scottish Government for nine years between 2003 and 2012.  I am also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, hold an accreditation in Mediation and have been appointed to the list of Arbitrators, Mediators and Expert Determiners for the Faculty Dispute Resolution Service.  My main specialities are Planning Law, Employment Law and commercial litigation.
The purpose of this site is to inform you of the services I can provide as an advocate and barrister.    I am able to represent clients in person in all British courts and tribunals such as at a planning inquiry, Sheriff Courts, the Court of Session, the Employment Tribunal, the High Court and the Land Court and to present their case as effectively as possible. However, I am also able to provide an expert opinion on any of these fields and to undertake the effective drafting of court documents e.g. summons, initial writ, petition, application, statements of case and defences.
In addition to my lengthy experience in representing clients before a range of courts and tribunals, I can also assist in playing an effective part in negotiations which might avoid the need for litigation through the courts
