Public and Administrative

Sometimes the actions of a local authority or central government are open to challenge by way of a process known as judicial review. I have in the past represented individual objectors, local authorities and central government in the Court of Session before a single judge and also before three judges on appeal (known as the Inner House) in matters of public law.

In addition, I served as standing junior counsel to the Scottish Government for nine years between 2003 and 2012 and have acted in a variety of areas for it, specifically including property law, planning law and agriculture.  I am also a Legal Chair of the First-tier Tribunal (Housing and Property Chamber), dealing with disputes in the field of Private Tenancies and between homeowners and their factors.  Between 2011 and 2016, I was also a Commissioner and Legal member of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission.
